JANESVILLE – Three people are dead and a fourth person is in critical condition following a shooting at a Janesville apartment complex, Janesville police say.Â
At a press conference late Tuesday afternoon, Janesville police said the shooting reported shortly after 11 a.m. was domestic related. While there were children in building at the time, in the Aspen Square Apartments in the 2500 block of Holiday Drive, there were no children in the apartment where the shooting occurred, Police Chief Chad Pearson said.Â
Pearson said police initially responded to a call that came in at 11:04 a.m., of a “family problem." This was followed by a 911 call that reported shots had been fired.Â
Pearson said officers found three adults dead of gunshot wounds and one adult with a critical gunshot wound. Officers began lifesaving efforts on that fourth person before they were transported to a local hospital where they were reported to be in critical condition.
Pearson said the area around the apartment complex, that had been closed to traffic since the initial response, had reopened by late afternoon Tuesday.Â
Janesville City Manager Kevin Lahner also addressed the press conference, urging the community to "remember that there are victims here and our thoughts and prayers should go out to their loved ones and their families that have been impacted by the dramatic events of today."
"I also just want to take a moment to recognize our first responders in particular the police officers who were first on the scene that responded to this tragedy and the firefighters and EMS personnel that responded and transported patients today. It was a very troubling scene and I’m sure itÃÛèÖÊÓƵ something that will be impacting them for the rest of their personal lives," Lahner said.Â
Pearson said the police department is limited in the information it can release, as the investigation is continuing. He said there is no ongoing threat to the community and said the scene is safe. Â
“At this point, we're not going to be able to provide exact detailed information due to the fact there's a lot of delicate information that pertains to the individuals who are victims of this matter,†Pearson said.
Pearson said there were family matters at the location that police had been called out to in the past. He said he couldn’t share any information at this time about suspects.Â
