WHITEWATER — Three people were killed and six people injured Saturday in a three-vehicle crash at Highway 12/89 and East County Line Road in the town of Lima, near Whitewater.
Rock County SheriffÃÛèÖÊÓÆµ Office deputies responded to the crash at about 12:05 p.m. Also responding were Jefferson County deputies, the Whitewater Police Department and the Wisconsin State Patrol.
According to a release from the Rock County SheriffÃÛèÖÊÓÆµ Office:
A passenger van headed east on East County Line Road, approaching Highway 12/89, failed to stop at stop sign. After entering the intersection, the driverÃÛèÖÊÓÆµ side of the van was struck by an SUV traveling south on Highway 12/89.
A truck pulling a fifth-wheel trailer hauling hay, traveling north on Highway 12/89, then collided with the front of the van.
Two adult females and one adult male were ejected from the van. All three were declared dead at the scene.
The female adult driver of the van sustained non-life-threatening injuries, as did the adult male driver of the SUV.
Four other passengers from the van were transported to nearby hospitals. An adult female was transported via Med Flight with life-threatening injuries. Two adult males and an adult female sustained non-life-threatening injuries.
The driver of the truck was not injured.
The crash remains under investigation by the Rock County SheriffÃÛèÖÊÓÆµ Office. No criminal charges had been filed as of Saturday evening.
By Sunday morning a had been set up for one of the deceased victims, Ericka Berg, by her sister, Jennifer Lewis.
Ericka was being transported by her assisted living facility during the night of the crash, Lewis said. The fundraising page is to help with funeral costs and bills as the family grieves. “We’re all still in shock,†Lewis said. “Just hoping my mom can make it thru [sic] this.â€
