BALTIMORE — Maryland Gov. Wes MooreÃÛèÖÊÓƵ Juneteenth announcement of $400 million in state funds to historically underserved communities isn’t sitting well with some Republican lawmakers, who view the initiative as an unproductive government handout.

According to the Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD), the funds — which come primarily from DHCDÃÛèÖÊÓƵ budgets for the 2026 and 2027 fiscal years — will be designated for programming in accordance with Moore signing the Just Communities Act last year.
