Janesville police Sgt. Ben Thompson said police ended a short-lived soft lockdown at the school Friday morning that was done as a "precaution" while police checked on a person who lives at a residence nearby.

Thompson indicated police had been told a resident might have been considering harming themselves, but officers who checked on the resident said the report was resolved without incident, Thompson said. 

Lincoln Elementary School Principal Shawn Galvin said police called administration at the school at about 8 a.m. to notify the school of a “police incident� in the neighborhood near the school.

Galvin said police ended the lockdown “shortly after school started.�
