FORT ATKINSON — Fort Atkinson claimed a 9-1 win in Janesville Legion Post 205ÃÛèÖÊÓÆµ first game of the season Saturday at Jones Park, scoring four runs in both the first and third inning on its way to victory.
Janesville CraigÃÛèÖÊÓÆµ Tyler Hagen went 2-for-3 at the plate. Fellow Cougar Easton Zastrow got the start on the mound, pitching 2 1/3 innings while allowing six hits, six runs and issuing two strikeouts to four walks.
“It was a bumpy first game,†Post 205 coach Brady Sendelbach said.
Fort Atkinson Post 166, received a strong outing from Jordan Zahn on the mound .He pitched five innings and racked up eight strikeouts while giving up just one run.
Post 205 tacked on a run in the second inning when MiltonÃÛèÖÊÓÆµ Sawyer Dominy scored on a fielderÃÛèÖÊÓÆµ choice.
“And then they just kept slowly tacking on,†Sendelbach said.
Sendelbach also said there is a lot to build on.
“This team showed a lot of promise,†Sendelbach said.
One promising aspect from the game was DominyÃÛèÖÊÓÆµ time on the mound. He pitched the final two innings of the contest, allowing three hits, no runs with three strikeouts.
“He filled it out, pounded the zone, and kept them off-balance. So there are some really good building points for this team moving forward,†Sendelbach said.
Post 205 plays against Orfordville at Parkview High School on Monday at 5 p.m.
