MILTON — Trey Jones would love to finish his Milton High baseball career with the same result he enjoyed when he started it four years ago.
Today, the top-ranked in their sectional Red Hawks play Lake Geneva Badger at 10 a.m. in a sectional semifinal at Oregon. If Milton advances, the Red Hawks turnaround and play the Monona Grove-Mukwonago winner at 4 p.m. also at Oregon. The winner of that game advances to the state tournament in Grand Chute.
Jones and his Red Hawks teammates hoisted the WIAA Division 1 State Championship plaque back in June of 2022 at Neuroscience Group Field at Fox Cities Stadium in Grand Chute.
Jones was a freshman on that team that was led by seniors Gavin Kilen and Jack Campion.

“We got the No. 1 seed, which is great,†Jones said before the Red Hawks held a team scrimmage last Monday afternoon. “We got the conference championship, which is great.
“We’re right where we wanted to be.â€
Jones started, but didn’t figure in the decision as Milton beat Westosha Central 3-2 to get to todayÃÛèÖÊÓÆµ sectional play.

Going into the tournament, Jones is 6-1. He has allowed just 30 hits in 55 innings this season. His WHIP was .81 with 45 strikeouts and 13 walks during the regular season.
“I’m feeling great,†Jones said. “We’re on a three-game winning streak, so that is always good going into the playoffs.â€
Jones has overcome a knee injury suffered while batting just days after the Red Hawks won the state tournament by beating Bay Port 11-1. Jones pitched a scoreless inning in the championship game.
The effects of that knee injury carried over into his sophomore season.
“I really didn’t get cleared (to play) until the middle of March,†he said. “Everything is great now.â€
As a junior, Jones led the Milton staff in innings pitched (54). He went 5-4 with 44 strikeouts and a 2.32 ERA and earned second-team All-Badger Large Conference honors.

The 6-foot-2, 200-pound Jones has grown physically and ability since his freshman season. He has played summer baseball with the Midwest Halos traveling team that is based out of Muskego.
“Since freshman year, I think I’ve gained 13 miles per hour,†said Jones, whose fastball is measured at 83 mph by the Prep Baseball website.

“That is something I would like to accomplish the year,†Jones said.
Milton head coach Kris Agnew said that is a possibility for Jones, who has four pitches in his arsenal. The fastball and changeup curve are his two go-to pitches.
“HeÃÛèÖÊÓÆµ always been very, very consistent,†Agnew said. “This year, he took another jump with his velocity and maturity.
“His numbers are off the chart.â€
Jones is going to attend Milwaukee Area Technical College. Former Red Hawks teammate Justin Schnell is completing his second and final season with the Stormers.
“He had a big jump in his velocity since he went there,†said Jones. “I decided that would be the best place to go.â€
“I would like to be at the same level as those guys are,†Jones said, “Guys like Gavin Kilen and Jack Campion took me under their wing, and I aspire to be on their skill level.
“I work hard every day because is something I want to do.â€
Agnew said the coaching staff recognizes that.
“Trey is such a great teammate,†Agnew said. “Whether he is pitching or not. He is a guy to look up to for the rest of our staff and younger players.â€
This summer, Jones plans to play in the six-team Dairyland Collegiate League for the Maunesha River Rats. The team is based out of Waterloo.
His more immediate goal is to help take the Red Hawks back to Grand Chute.
“ThatÃÛèÖÊÓÆµ our goal,†Jones said. “That is what we have been working toward.â€
