JANESVILLE — Catcher Brandon North, Bluffton (Ohio) University, drove in two runners and delivered three hits for the Wisconsin Cheese Kings as they beat the Waukesha Foxes 8-7 on Saturday at the Janesville Youth Sports Complex in a Dairyland Collegiate League baseball game. The second game of the doubleheader was postponed due to rain.Â
The Cheese Kings (7-12) grabbed an early lead after scoring three runs in the first inning and two in the second.Â
North started the scoring with an RBI-single in the first inning. North, and Konner Giddley, each stole home later in the inning to give Wisconsin its 3-0 advantage.
Giddley then provided an RBI triple in the second inning.
The Foxes weren’t going down without swinging as they scored five runs in the third inning. A solo home run from right fielder Jake Ulbert in the bottom of the third gave the Cheese Kings a 6-5 edge.Â
Waukesha battled back in the top of the sixth to cut Wiconsin've lead to 8-7, but it wasn't enough to overcome the Cheese Kings. Â
Wisconsin starter Patrick Schork pitched three innings and struck out six batters. Michael Zink pitched the next three innings and allowed four hits and two earned runs.
Janesville Craig graduate Dylan Snyder earned the save and struck out two.Â
The Cheese Kings collected six hits and total.Â
"When we take care of the bell well, we win. It was just good to get back on track. I wish we would have finished Game 2," Schultz said.Â
The Cheese Kings held a 3-0 lead in the third inning of the second game, but the rain washed away a potential win. Schultz said a rescheduling is still up in the air.Â
Wisconsin takes on the Beach Bums in its next contest on Monday at 4 p.m. at the Janesville Youth Sports Complex.
